What is Piece Rate?
Each job task card is assigned a "budget" of estimated time that it should take to perform that job. The budget is determined by using historical data and factors in the setup, research, task time, and buyback. This budget number show up as "Labor Units" on each job task card.

If a mechanic is assigned a job task card that shows 10 labor units and he or she completes the job in 6 hours, they would still be paid for the budgeted 10 labor units.

On the other hand, if a mechanic is assigned the same task card and it takes him or her 12 hours to complete the job, he or she would still receive only the 10 budgeted labor units.

Currently, 90-95% of all jobs assigned are accomplished under budget. Most mechanics have found that by planning their jobs and working smarter, they become successful.

Straight Time Pay
Labor Units (accrued for the week) x hourly pay rate

Example (using $20.00 as hourly pay rate)

Work Week: 57 hours worked x $20.00 = $1140.00
Day Hrs. Worked Labor Units
Monday 10 14
Tuesday 10 8
Wednesday 10 12
Thursday 10 13
Friday 8 10
Totals 48 57

Overtime Pay Example (using calculations from above)
$1140.00(week's total pay) / 48 hrs.(hours worked) = $23.75
$23.75 / 2 = 11.88
11.88 x 8(overtime hours) = $95.00
